Vision and Mission

Our aim is to provide a mobile information system adequate for the mobile age. For this, we consider the following characteristics to be crucial:

• open to anybody who wants to consume or provide situation-specific information or services via mobile phones
• multi-purpose: mobeedo allows for significantly more than just, for example, indicating that a particular Wikipedia article could be of interest at your current location: virtual summit logs, avalanche warning services, speed trap alert systems or change trains notifications are only a few examples of what can be implemented easily solely based on standard web technology.
  Essential for this is that besides location (annotated in form of an arbitrarily shaped polygon rather than only a single POInt) also time and speed as well as the parameters language and age are taken into account. In addition, personal IDs allow for restricting the visibility/availability of information or services to specified groups and individuals. Also, the URI referencing the content relevant to the defined situations can be dynamic, i.e. contain situation parameters.
• easy to use: the search for and indication of information relevant to the user's current situation does not require any interaction, the actual download only requires a single touch on the indicating bar. As soon as the linked content is not relevant anymore, the corresponding notification automatically disappears without leaving traces.
• free of charge for consumers and non-profit information and service providers
• anonymous, i.e. no tracking of the mobile user

What does mobeedo mean?
The word mobeedo is a blend of the words "mobile" and "edo" (Greek for "here").
Why the kangaroo?
Not only are kangaroos very mobile animals, they are also blessed with a built-in pouch by Mother Nature to carry their mobile phones ... ;-) (Well, the real reason is that kangaroos are the favourite animals of our project manager.)
Who is behind mobeedo?
What started out with two persons has now become a team of around ten people covering a wide variety of expertise and sharing the goal of creating a "mobile oracle". In order to have a proper legal, organizational, and administrational basis/frame for our endeavour we founded the company Sengaro GmbH.

At the beginning, our main focus will lie on incorporating early user experience. So, first and foremost, use mobeedo and give us feedback! Furthermore, the more content, the more value (and fun). How do you plan to raise the money needed to run and further develop mobeedo?
This is, of course, an essential question. By now mobeedo has already exceeded the size of a spare time project. It is obvious that, to ensure long-term success of the system, it has to become self-sufficient. Therefore, we will offer the possibility to provide commercial information and services in due time. Commercial providers will have additional functionality at their disposal, their content can be accessed but not modified by the community.
Since mobeedo allows for highly targeted provision of information and services, on the one hand, and a clear separation between commercial and community content, we will make sure to keep commercial content unobtrusive, thus expecting to increase the quantity of content without lowering its quality. We would like to emphasize that our principles - openness, no costs for consumers and non-profit providers, anonymity - will not be affected in any way. Also, the community-contributed content will be made freely available.
